The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, attended the inauguration ceremony of the New Ganja Locomotive Depot, constructed by the independent company “6-ci Mertebe” company.
The depot is designated for the maintenance of alternating current (AC) locomotives ordered from the Alstom company. A total of 50 locomotives have been ordered, including 40 AC freight locomotives and 10 dual-mode (AC and DC) passenger locomotives. To date, 36 freight and 10 passenger locomotives have already been delivered to Azerbaijan.
“The total area of the depot is 45,000 square meters, including 2,800 m² of repair workshops, a 1,181 m² warehouse building, an 800 m² train crew facility, and a 568 m² office building. The main repair area includes a two-level platform that allows simultaneous servicing of up to 6 locomotives. The new depot is fully equipped to provide continuous technical service for all ordered AC locomotives,” stated the press secretary.
The depot is outfitted with modern equipment and technology sourced from the USA, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy, Turkey, South Korea, China, Russia, and several other countries. Additionally, 350 solar panels have been installed on-site to help partially meet the depot’s energy needs.
The new depot is expected to create 75 jobs. To ensure employee comfort, the facility includes showers and changing rooms, a cafeteria, meeting rooms, training rooms, and other office spaces.
The operation of the New Ganja Locomotive Depot will contribute to energy efficiency, cost reduction, optimization of maintenance and technical services, and will enhance reliability and continuity in railway operations.
